Back in Ittigen

It's 1:30a.m. on Friday night, here in Ittigen. Xavier just fell asleep and Izzi and I are struggling to find sleep.

Isabella, Xavier and I arrived at our apartment last night about 7:30 p.m., almost exactly 24 hours after getting to the Minneapolis airport to begin our trip. We got stuck on the Chicago runway for 3 hours while the auto pilot control panel was replaced, thus missing our 3rd flight out of Manchester. We sat in the Manchester airport for 5 hours waiting for the next flight.

We all slept for about 2 hours on our long flight over the Atlantic, so I figured we were on our way to getting our sleep straight once back here. Xavier fell asleep on the train ride from Zurich to Bern and there was no waking him after that. Isabella turned in around 9p.m. and I around 10:30p.m. I never thought to set an alarm, thinking we'd all wake by 9a.m. or so. Little did I know that we wouldn't wake until12:30 in the afternoon. So, Xavier got about 18 hours of solid sleep.

A long explanation of why we're awake now.

We had a wonderful, very busy vacation in MN and Iowa. We got to see most of our loved ones, but not all...unfortunately. Once we're back into a routine here, I'll share some photos.

  1. Your trip back to Switzerland doesn't sound nearly as grueling as your trip back to Mexico City from Guatemala! 38 hours on smelly old buses, frequent flat tires, sleeping at the border crossing,... Now that's what I'm talking about! Gruezi Kim! I've been wanting to get back in touch for some time. During a bout of insomnia, I Googled you and was happy to find your blog. Your kids are as cute as can be and look like they are loving life in CH. I lived in St. Gallen for 1 year when I was 15 and absolutely loved it. I'm so happy for you. Email me when you have a chance. Tschussli! Love, Kathy Colman.
